Gurseva is a UK-registered Sikh charity supporting vulnerable people and the environment. Founded in 1998, the organisation is inspired by the Sikh philosophy of Sarbatt da Bhalla , meaning universal peace and prosperity for all. Their volunteers provide vital aid to those in need, such as the homeless. In addition, they organise tree-planting events to help protect the environment.

I first discovered Gurseva through the British Sikh Report project. Later, I volunteered with them at a tree-planting event in 2018.

During the 2020 pandemic, they played a crucial role in distributing food to those most suffering. It was at this time they contacted me to help redesign their logo. I gladly offered my support during this challenging period. The rising tree and sun in the icon mark capture growth, optimism, and togetherness through an earth-toned colour palette.

More recently, in 2025, Gurseva secured funding to produce collateral materials for their tree-planting initiatives. These included an informative booklet highlighting the benefits of community tree planting, with case studies from the Crane Valley area in West London, where their work is focused. They also requested a social media promotion template along with branded t-shirts and hoodies. We are now to migrate the website to a professional platform and to give it a light refresh.

Sustainable Design Approach
I suggested printing the booklet on recycled FSC-certified paper. FSC paper, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), ensures that paper products come from responsibly managed forests. This promotes sustainable forestry and helps protect the environment.

Moreover, I recommended printing a roll-up banner with a QR code. This allows people to scan and read or the booklet digitally. By doing so, they can avoid taking a printed copy, which reduces environmental impact.

Using FSC-certified paper and digital alternatives supports sustainability goals and aligns with responsible environmental practices. These choices help lower waste and conserve natural resources while still effectively promoting the charity’s message and events.

Next Steps
I’ll migrate Gurseva’s website to an eco-friendly WordPress hosting plan, starting with a light refresh to create a stable, professional foundation for future growth.

Quotation marks
We needed a booklet for our tree-planting activities with a rapid turnaround, as it was to be gifted to attendees at an event. Having worked with Ludo before, we knew what to expect and trusted her completely. She provided excellent consultation, high-quality design work, and printing advices, all at short notice. She surpassed our expectations once again, and we’d happily recommend working with her.
